Volunteering Opportunity at the Atlantic – Black Sea Security Forum
We are currently accepting applications for volunteering for the Atlantic – Black Sea Security Forum: Bracing for the Storm – Is United Western Action Possible?. The Forum will take place on June 4-5, and is organized by the Aspen Institute Romania in partnership with NATO’s Public Diplomacy Division and the Bucharest office of the German Marshall Fund of the United States. The Forum is a high level international event, part of the Aspen National Security & Defense program.
The event reflects both the deterioration of the general security environment and the increased relevance of the Greater Black Sea area. It will foster a conversation on the current status of European security, and its increasing challenges coming from external actors (Russia, Iran, Syria), from actors within the Trans-Atlantic alliance (Turkey), from the need to adapt institutional designs and interactions (EU-NATO), and, last but not least, from the need for an enhanced Trans-Atlantic cooperation. Given the complex nature of security in today’s world, the discussion will also focus on the confluence of the hybrid security threats, cyber defense, energy security and the relationship between security, defense sector and related industries or fields with areas of interest which include geo-political aspects of defense on the Trans-Atlantic Alliance, particularly the broader Black Sea region. Another topic that will be approached is the role and leadership of women and in this sector, taking into consideration the UN resolution on women, peace and security, which calls for leadership and participation of women in maintaining and promoting peace and security.
Among the confirmed speakers are:
- James Appathurai, Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security Policy and NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia
- Judy Dempsey, Nonresident Senior Fellow, Editor in chief, Carnegie Europe, Strategic Europe
- Stephen Flanagan, Senior Political Scientist, RAND Corporation
Please be advised that, if selected, you will also need to attend short informative sessions on the days prior to the event.
Work during the volunteering program would involve welcoming guests, assisting with organizing materials for the event, registration of onsite attendees, providing useful information to guests, tracking session participation, logistical support.
