Aspen Institute Romania, in partnership with the German Marshall Fund of the United States, Bucharest Office, the Aspen Institute Germany, and the Aspen Institute Italia, is organizing the webinar Resilience and Foresight – The World after the Pandemic, on May 29, between 14:30 – 15:30 Central European Time15:30 – 16:30 Eastern European Time. The webinar, organized under the aegis of the Aspen Dialogues Series, the Governance and Society Program and the Aspen Economic and Strategy Group, will address the issues of resilience and foresight in a post – pandemic world, in the context of the necessary global recovery after the crisis created by the Covid-19 outbreak.

Now more than ever, it has become clear that the concept of resilience has evolved from a narrow understanding, to a global concern. The debates will cover four strategic dimensions: transport, cyber, demography and future of work. Given recent developments, all these aspects related to resilience-building in front of global threats such as pandemics, will determine the agenda for many years to come.

The webinar will also address resilience in the face of fake news, a tactics which has recently become a key pillar of a wider hybrid warfare campaign waged by state and non-state actors against institutions such as NATO, the EU, and their member states. As the intensity and potential for harm of the fake news campaign have increased since the pandemic, the webinar will discuss strategies to identify and counteract fake news, looking at best practices and potential lessons learned.

During the webinar, Mr. Maroš Šefčovič, European Commission Vice-President for Interinstitutional Relations and Foresight, will engage in a moderated discussion with Ms. Baiba Braže, Assistant Secretary General for Public Diplomacy, NATO, chaired by Andrew Wrobel, Founding Partner, Strategy & Content, Emerging Europe. They will approach resilience and foresight from the perspective of two of the most important international organizations, focusing on the baseline requirements for resilience and a highly necessary Index for Resilience.

Participants will have the opportunity to engage in a moderated Q&A session.
