Capital Markets, Pension Funds & Insurance After the Elections: Economic Choices at a Turning Point
As Romania enters a new phase of political and economic transformation, marked by critical elections, the direction chosen by future decision-makers will shape the country’s trajectory for years to come. These choices have the potential to either reinforce national resilience and economic stability – or increase volatility and erode investor confidence.
In this context, Aspen Institute Romania, in partnership with the Financial Supervisory Authority (ASF) and under the aegis of the Aspen New Economy & Society Program, convened a strategic roundtable to reflect on the implications of Romania’s post-electoral landscape for financial markets. The conversation brought together key voices from regulatory institutions, the private sector, and civil society to examine how Romania can safeguard trust in its financial architecture while navigating growing uncertainty.
Discussions addressed systemic risks and strategic challenges facing the capital markets, the future of private pension funds in a politically fluid environment, and the role of the insurance sector as a macroeconomic buffer. Participants also explored how ASF and the National Bank of Romania can reinforce perceptions of institutional continuity and neutrality, even amid political polarization. The roundtable emphasized the importance of evidence-based regulation, strong governance, and public-private dialogue in preventing systemic imbalances and promoting long-term financial stability.
This closed-door event took place in Romanian and followed a moderated format, with guided questions to the speakers and open discussion with all participants.
