
Mara-Daniela Calista

Mara Calista is a second term MP in the Romanian Parliament and a female politician with more than 15 years of experience in both legislative and administrative fields. She graduated the University of Political Science and has a Master’s Degree in Politics, Gender, and Minorities issues, focusing on dealing with the problems that vulnerable groups like women, children and people with disabilities must face every day.
She was a member of the Labour and Social Protection Committee for eight years, also being an expert on labour legislation as well as a mediator, focused on law initiatives related to the pension system, especially the private pensions schemes. Additionally, another area of focus for her was on laws that refer to the minimum wage based on two major economic principles: inflation and productivity. Also, during her two mandates, she promoted several laws regarding the protection of women and children with an urgent need of eradicating the gender-based violence phenomenon, offering continuous support in diminishing the occurrences of under aged motherhood but also offering medical and social infrastructure support for all the families that decide to have children.
During 2023, she campaigned for gender quota, as a single and most necessary political measure as for to have a better women representation, but also to have policies for women made by the women. Starting with 2025 she made an important change in her career and started working in the private area, after an experience of over 17 years of public service, being appointed the Director of Public Affairs & Corporate Communication at Up Romania.
