Dr. Gheorghe Bălan, 32 years old, is Assistant Lecturer in Gastroenterology, Faculty of Medicine University of Medicine and Pharmacy Grigore T. Popa, Iasi, and serves as digestive interventional endoscopist in the Institute of Gastroenterology and Hepatology of Iasi, Romania. Currently he is President of the Young Romanian Gastroenterologists’ Society and Fellow of the European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. His main clinical expertise is in diagnostic and therapeutic digestive endoscopy, biliopancreatic endoscopy, management of digestive tract bleedings and endoscopic resection of luminal tumours. His practical expertise exceeds 3000 upper and lower digestive tract endoscopy procedures. He has also graduated from the World Gastroenterology Organisation Train, Trainers Programme and currently is involved in gastroenterology and digestive endoscopy teaching and training programmes. Research expertise in digestive endoscopy, endoscopy-associated infections prevention, quality assurance in digestive endoscopy, medical malpractice and litigation. So far, he published more than 60 peer reviewed papers in master journal list publications and his H-index is 9 (Web of Science).
