Cătălin Chelmuș is an aerospace engineer and a visionary leader in Romanian rocketry. As Team Leader of 2Space, the first and only university rocketry team in Romania, based at the University POLITEHNICA Bucharest, he has supervised multiple supersonic rocket launches – including the most powerful student-built rocket in Southeast Europe – and has helped break altitude records abroad, notably at Spaceport America in the US. Under his leadership, 2Space has designed and built rockets entirely in-house, while promoting sustainability by reusing hardware and optimizing materials.

Beyond rocketry, Cătălin has been actively involved in STEM outreach and aerospace education. Since 2022, he has overseen the national high school satellite competition QUBE2SPACE, with winning projects integrated into university-led launches. In summer 2024, he led the first online Rocket Engineering course at the FDVDR Summer School, co-organized with the Dan Voiculescu Foundation, bringing aerospace engineering closer to high school students. Starting in the same year, he also began mentoring the rocketry team of the Laude-Reut Educational Complex and actively supports the community’s efforts to advance aerospace education.

In addition to his technical leadership, Cătălin serves as Vice President of the Romanian Modeling Federation and manages the national space modeling team. A former elite competitor with multiple international medals, he applies his competitive spirit and discipline to youth mentorship, aerospace outreach, and civic leadership.
