Scotland Hydro Nation Chair, Academic Director for Scotland’s International Environment Centre, University of Stirling
Professor Andrew Tyler, is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and the Scotland Hydro Nation Chair, based at the University of Stirling, UK. As the Hydro Nation Chair, he provides the leadership to forge the collaborative relationships across the Scottish water sector (and beyond) to deliver the solutions for sustainable water management in Scotland, including going beyond net zero by 2040. Working closely with the Water industry, and leading a cross institutional programme, spanning engineering, sciences, social sciences, innovation in technology and practice, his agenda includes supporting a Flourishing Scotland, including driving opportunities in the circular economy and solutions for climate action.
Specialising in digital technologies for environmental systems understanding, Andrew and his team have built a digital observatory of the whole of the Firth of Forth Catchment in Scotland, bringing sensor and satellite technologies together to understanding the full water continuum from source to sea – to bring the environment to the heart of decision making. Andrew leads the UK’s partnership with the Romanian led (GeoEcoMar) pan European Infrastructure on River-Sea systems (DANUBIUS-RI) – leading the Observation Node. He also co-led the development of the System of System for the Black Sea (with IO-BAS, Bulgaria and colleagues across the Black Sea region and Europe) through the H2020 DOORS project, a digital platform to value the Black Sea, support climate adaptation, sustainability and wider prosperity in the Black Sea region.
