Mihaela Marinela Paun is a senior research leader and applied statistician with over two decades of experience at the intersection of science, public policy, and institutional governance. She currently serves as Director General of the National Institute for Research and Development in Biological Sciences (INCDSB), where she leads strategic transformation processes focused on research quality, interdisciplinary integration, and sustainable public value creation.

Her professional trajectory spans North America and Europe, combining a tenured academic career in the United States with senior leadership roles in Romania’s national research system. Trained in mathematics, computer science, and statistics, she holds a PhD in computational analysis and modeling.

Through her involvement in the development of European research infrastructures, such as DANUBIUS-RI, she contributes to strengthening international scientific cooperation and to positioning Romania as an active partner in large-scale European research initiatives.
