The 2025 edition of the Aspen Seminar for Leaders took place on April 24–27, in a special location in the heart of Romania.

Inspired by one of the Aspen Institute’s oldest and most beloved programs, the Seminar gathered 22 leaders from the public, private, academic, and non-governmental sectors to explore questions related to leadership and values, using the Aspen Method, in an informal and critical dialogue based on a collection of readings sent beforehand.

The seminar curriculum was an expertly curated mix of stimulating readings from historical and contemporary thinkers in the fields of philosophy, literature, economic theory, history, and the social sciences. The texts were carefully chosen to spark discussions and interest in exploring various topics such as liberty, equality, and responsibility, stimulating participants to find their own answers to the enduring questions of societal, organizational, and personal leadership. These debates contributed to enhancing participants’ ability to analyze and tackle increasingly challenging contemporary societal issues and global situations.

The Seminar was moderated by Dr. Todd Breyfogle, Executive Director of Seminars, Aspen Institute US. The moderator challenged participants to expand their perspectives and explore the value conflicts inherent in all leadership decisions, using the readings as a foundation for discussion.

While the Seminar offered no ready-made solutions, it created a space for dialogue, which was fundamental for a world that had to deal with conflicting interests, values, and cultures on a daily basis. The purpose of the Seminar was not to find unanimous responses, but to highlight the complexity of today’s societies and to stimulate that cultural understanding from which values and universal ideals are born. The Aspen Seminar for Leaders was a journey of reflection and self-discovery.

Participation in the Seminar was fee-based.
