Alexandru Olaru

Licensed in law and political science, Alexandru has been working with the Ministry of Justice in the Department for European Programs since January 2007, after passing the legal adviser exam, assimilated to the judges’ and prosecutors’ exam. He has been the head of the unit since November 2013.
Alexandru has implemented or coordinated numerous projects financed through various non-reimbursable funds. As deputy head of the Program Operator (a structure with similar responsibilities to the management authorities for structural funds), he coordinated the implementation of four Norwegian financing programs supporting projects in the fields of justice, correctional services, and domestic violence.
With extensive experience in negotiating financial support for major reforms and development needs within the judiciary, Alexandru also played an active role in the Romanian Presidency of the EU Council. He served as vice-chair of the Ad Hoc Working Party on JHA Financial Instruments, where he was part of the team that finalized the trialogue negotiations for two regulations establishing direct management programs in the fields of justice and fundamental rights.
