Bogdan – Vasile Rusu
Fellow 2022
Bogdan-Vasile Rusu was born in Cluj-Napoca on November 18, 1989. He is the youngest of two children. His life is closely linked to Cluj County, where both of his parents originated and where he and his older sister have spent most of their lives.
In 2000, the most significant moment of his life occurred when, at less than 11 years old, he lost his mother in a domestic accident.
He began his education at Onisifor Ghibu Theoretical High School in Cluj-Napoca, where he studied for the first six years. He then completed the 7th and 8th grades at the gymnasium school within Nicolae Bălcescu Theoretical High School, also in Cluj-Napoca. This move was primarily for practical reasons—Nicolae Bălcescu High School had a student canteen, and his older sister was already studying there. He later returned to Onisifor Ghibu for high school, where he initially pursued a mathematics and computer science track for the first two years before switching to social sciences in the final years. Although he was not considered an outstanding student, he successfully passed the baccalaureate exam at the end of high school.
He then pursued undergraduate studies in public administration at Babeș-Bolyai University (UBB) in Cluj, later completing a master’s degree in community development and urban planning within the same faculty.
Professionally, Bogdan Rusu began working in high school, performing unskilled summer jobs in the construction materials industry. During high school, he worked at McDonald’s for a year, followed by several other small jobs.
In 2014, he secured a position at the town hall of Sânpaul commune, Cluj County, where he worked for seven years as a project manager. In 2016, alongside the mayor of Sânpaul and four other mayors from the county, he co-founded Someș-Nadăș LAG, an organization he led until February 2021. At that time, he made a significant professional transition, taking on a role within the North-West Regional Development Agency (RDA).
Currently, Bogdan Rusu serves as the Head of the Project Preparation Department within the North-West RDA.
