David Smoljak is a Czech screenwriter, dramaturge, publicist, and since 2019, senator for Prague 9. A graduate of the Film and Television Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (FAMU), he has held a wide range of creative and editorial roles, from television screenwriter and chief dramaturge to editor-in-chief of TV entertainment.

In recent years, he has focused on safeguarding the independence of public service media as coordinator of the civic initiative “Svobodu médiím!” (Freedom to the Media). Alongside his professional career, David has been active in public life, serving as a representative of Prague-Vinoř since 2014, where he worked on urban development and environmental issues.

He is a member of the STAN political party and the Mayors and Independents Caucus and has served as Chairman of the Standing Senate Commission on Media since 2022.
