Denis Parea is the National Coordinator of the Global Environment Facility Small Grants Programme (GEF SGP) in Moldova, implemented by UNDP (since 2019). Previously, he served for the German Development Agency in Moldova (GIZ) as Advisor on Local Public Service Provision and Focal Point on Waste Management (2012-2018). 

Denis holds a BA in Law from the Moldova State University (2011) and a Master’s degree in Regional Development from the “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iași (2019).

Denis has extensive experience of over 10 years in managing and monitoring environmental projects. He is providing guidance and support to the civil society organizations (CSO) and local public authorities on addressing environmental issues by applying the best practices in solid waste management and nature-based solutions. Moreover, being a member of the environmental community in the Republic of Moldova, he is actively involved in promoting environmentally friendly policies and provides support in initiating and implementing innovative ideas that can stop or mitigate environmental pollution.

Outside work, Denis is a nature explorer and likes to spend time outside and practice different outdoor activities such as: hiking, camping, fishing, and cycling. He believes that engaging with nature reinforces our bond with the environment, offering both physical and mental benefits.
