Katja Christina Plate heads the KAS country office in Romania since 2022. She studied economics and social sciences at the Faculty of the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg, and political science at the Institut d’Etudes Politiques in Strasbourg. This was followed abroad by a “Diploma in Islamic Studies” at the Islamic Faculty of Sarajevo. Katja Plate has been working for the Konrad Adenauer Foundation since 2005. She was initially in the North America / Europe team responsible for South-eastern Europe, then took over the project “Values, Religion and Politics in Europe” in 2006. From November 2007 to March 2011, Katja led the regional program of political dialogue South Caucasus, as well as the EU project “Democracy Starts with You!”. From April 2011 to July 2014 she headed the country office for Italy and the Vatican of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation. Between 2014 and 2017, Katja worked in the evaluation unit in Berlin and led the Department for domestic programs from 2017 to 2021. Until April 2023 she has been in charge of the KAS office in the Republic of Moldova as well.
