
Mircea Abrudean
President of the Romanian Senat
Mircea Abrudean is the president of the Senate and senator elected, representing Cluj County.
During June 2023-December 2024, he was Secretary General of the Government, with the rank of Minister. He led the activity of the institution whose main role is to ensure the development of technical and strategic operations related to governing acts, the public institution being the element of connection and stability at governing level.
As secretary general, he coordinated Romania’s accession process to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Currently, as a senator, he is the Vice-President of the Joint Special Committee of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate for supporting the process of Romania’s accession to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
Prior to the position of secretary general, during 2021-2023 he was head of the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, a structure within the working apparatus of the Government, with the role of inter-institutional coordination and representation for the elaboration and foundation of the strategic vision of the Government.
In 2021, he was deputy general secretary of the Government of Romania, and during 2019-2021, prefect of Cluj County.
Mircea Abrudean holds a degree in International Relations and European Studies from “Babeș-Bolyai” University in Cluj-Napoca and a master’s degree in Project Management from the National School of Political and Administrative Studies in Bucharest.
