Sebastian-Dan Naste is a senior cybersecurity expert with extensive experience in public affairs, international relations, and legal affairs. He is working as an expert in legal policies and cybersecurity standardisation and acts as a Data Protection Officer (DPO) for the Romanian National Cyber Security Directorate (DNSC). He was also appointed as the Chairman of the Bucharest Cybersecurity Conference 2025 and 2024. Until March 2025, he held the position of Advisor to the Director of the DNSC. Prior to his current role, Sebastian was a senior digital economy analyst at Cullen International in Brussels, where he monitored EU regulations on cybersecurity, privacy, and data protection, as well as national legislative developments in the digital economy in Ireland and Romania. Before that, he worked as a public affairs manager specialising in cybersecurity at EU Strategy, a Brussels-based consultancy company. Earlier in his career, Sebastian was part of the cybersecurity and telecom team at the Permanent Representation of Romania to the EU, contributing during Romania’s Presidency of the Council of the EU in 2019. He also advised EU institutions on cybersecurity and privacy challenges while at Deloitte Luxembourg. Additionally, he gained valuable experience at the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights, working within the Data Protection Officer team. Sebastian holds an LL.M. in Law and Technology from Tilburg University in the Netherlands. A passionate advocate for bridging the gap between law and technology, he is dedicated to transforming complex regulatory and technological issues into effective policies and advocacy initiatives. He is fluent in English, French, and Italian. Sebastian is deeply committed to continuous personal and professional growth. He has been appointed as the KnowledgeNet Chapter Chair for the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) in both Belgium and Romania, and has also been elected Vice-President of the Romanian Association of Privacy and Data Protection Specialists (ASCPD) until 2024.
