Gabriel Vlase holds a Doctor’s Degree in Military Sciences and Intelligence and is a graduate of both the Polytechnic Institute and the Law Faculty of Bucharest. He also attended post university courses at George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies, the Higher College of National Security, the National Defense College, the Romanian Diplomatic Institute, the National Administration Institute. He holds an MBA in “European Economic Policies”.

Since the year 2004, he has been a Member of the Parliament of Romania as a representative of the Social Democratic Party.

He chaired the Joint Parliamentary Committee of Oversight of the Foreign Intelligence Service, being, concurrently, a Member of the Defense, Public Order and National Security Committee of the House of Deputies. After the 2012 elections, he chaired the Joint Parliamentary Committee on the Status of Deputies and Senators.

He headed the Romanian Parliamentary Delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, and currently is Honorable Vice President of NATO PA. From 2004 to 2008, he has been an active OSCE Observer, being designated for monitoring missions on the occasion of different elections, in countries such as: Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Ukraine, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro.

Since the year 2006, he attended international conferences, debates and workshops, focusing on significant topics, such as: the role of Parliaments in security and defense, oversight of the intelligence services, new approaches on fighting terrorism, security of the Mediterranean and Middle East Region, Black Sea security and cooperation, and so on. He gave courses as Associate Lecturer, at “Dimitrie Cantemir” University, and at the Higher College of National Security on International Security issues and the geopolitical balance of South-Eastern Europe.
