Florin is currently serving as Deputy Head of the Iran Division in the EU diplomatic service( EEAS). The Iran dedicated team supports the EU High Representative in the role of coordinator of the Joint Commission set up to oversee the implementation of the JCPOA. It also coordinates and develops a coherent framework for bilateral and regional security engagement with Iran.
Previously, Florin has been, among others, member of the “Security Union Task Force” under the leadership of Commissioner Sir Julian King, political assistant to the EEAS Managing Director for Europe and Central Asia, political coordinator for the European Economic Area and European Commission’s enlargement negotiator on economic as well as foreign and security files.
He was also a member of the Policy Planning Unit within the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and junior political advisor to EADS/Airbus Vicepresident for EU and NATO affairs.
He studied Philosophy, Politics and International Relations in Bucharest, Vienna, Tübingen and Nice, graduated the Master in Public Policy at the Hertie School of Governance in Berlin, specializing in public management and economics, and has been temporarily reading between 2011-2015 for a PhD in Government/International Political Economy with the London School of Economics (LSE).
He was the 2015 US German Marshall Fund’s Memorial Fellow and has been awarded other prestigious leadership fellowships with, among others, the Harvard Kennedy School, the Aspen Institute, Bertelsmann Foundation, German Council for Foreign Relations (DGAP) and die Zeit/Bucerius Summer School on Global Governance (2009).
