
Bekim Maksuti

Dr. Maksuti was born in Shipkovica, Tetovo, January 15th, 1978. He finished his secondary education at the “Cyril Pejcinovic – Gymnasium High School” in Tetovo. Following his secondary education he enrolled the Military Academy “Mihailo Apostolski” in Skopje, Republic of North of Macedonia, where he graduated as an infantry officer.
From 2005 – 2009 he followed his master studies at the “SS. Cyril and Methodius” University in Skopje where he earned his Master Degree from the Institute for Security, Defense and Peace Studies.
Dr. Maksuti received his Ph. D. in 2013 from the “SS. Cyril and Methodius” University in Skopje, from the Institute for Security, Defense and Peace Studies, in the field of Peace and Development with a dissertation on “The impact of the bilateral disputes to the Euro-Atlantic integration of the Western Countries”.
In 2001 he served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Tetovo, the Republic of North Macedonia. During this period he also served in the Army of the Republic of North Macedonia as a military officer until 2011. Following this, he was appointed Head of the Department for International Cooperation within the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of North Macedonia until 2016.
Besides his military carrier at the Special Operation Regiment and his service to the operation “IRAQI FREEDOM 05’-08’”, Dr. Maksuti has taken part in numerous conferences, courses, trainings and workshops on civilian and military basis. Several notable to mention are the Marshall Center for Security Studies in Garmish – Germany, DIILS Rhode Island – USA, DRMI – Monterey, California, NATO Defense College – Rome Italy, ICDS, NDU Beijing China etc.
Currently he is a lecturer in the field of security and defense at several universities in the country and the region.
From 2016 he is serving as a Deputy Minister of Defense of the Republic of North Macedonia.
He is married and has a son.
